There's a song by the industrial metal band Nine Inch Nails called "Everyday Is Exactly The Same". It's a fantastic song from a great album ("With Teeth") but it conjures up some questions. I invite you to read the lyrics and think about just how many people out there are lost and confused and feel just like this. What are we as the church doing to help these people?
"Everyday Is Exactly The Same" -- Nine Inch Nails
I believe I can see the future
Cause I repeat the same routine
I think I used to have a purpose
But then again
That might have been a dream
I think I used to have a voice
Now I never make a sound
I just do what I've been told
I really don't want them to come around
Oh, no
[Chorus:]
Every day is exactly the same
Every day is exactly the same
There is no love here and there is no pain
Every day is exactly the same
I can feel their eyes are watching
In case I lose myself again
Sometimes I think I'm happy here
Sometimes, yet I still pretend
I can't remember how this got started
But I can tell you exactly how it will end
[Chorus]
I'm writing on a little piece of paper
I'm hoping someday you might find
Well I'll hide it behind something
They won't look behind
I'm still inside here
A little bit comes bleeding through
I wish this could have been any other way
But I just don't know, I don't know what else I can do
[Chorus x2]

For some reason, your post and question reminded me of the scene from the movie, "In The Line of Fire," when Malcovich asks Eastwood what he does in his life that has any meaning.
"I play the piano," he says.
"That's not enough"
"How do you know, do you play?"
What we should be doing, as a church, as believers, as Christ's emissaries, is helping lost souls discover the sublime joy of serving Christ -- the meaning of it -- what Clint's character derived from playing the piano.
I applaud you for asking these questions in a way that's relevant to people, for talking to them where they live. And, hey, if you can spread the word using a Nine Inch Nails song, then you've redeemed it more than I might have otherwise thought possible.
Thanks for a good post.
